Golf Swing trainers to eliminate shanking golf balls?
Wednesday, December 31st, 2008SoSueme asked:
I have tried the Inside Approach and other training devices, but would like to know if anyone has found, used and had great success with a product that really focuses on making more solid contact with a golf ball and helps improve long iron play. I sometimes shank balls, especially with long irons. Please help! Thanks!

a little hitch on the top of the swing - im a high handicapper and each time im on top of the swing, i noticed that there is a slight pause or “hitch” which really annoys me and it sometimes causes my wrist to break. i tried shortening my swing (hip wide) but im still doing it. instead of asking for a certified golf teacher for help ($$$) any drills i can do?

How do I generate a more consistent golf swing?
Monday, December 29th, 2008pcfan54 asked:
I am a decent amatuer high school golfer who shoots up to 43 (on nine of course) on a good day and up to 60 on a bad day. My main problem is the consistency of my irons shots. I drive about 260 down the middle and have a good short game. However, I hit grounders with many of my long irons that not only kill my score, but also put me in an even worse position. If any of you have any tips, experirences, or methods to help me overcome this problem it would be greatly appreciated. My stance is such that I place the ball in between my legs, should I change it?

And yes I do practice frequently.

What is a Simple Golf Swing?
Saturday, December 27th, 2008John Lynch asked:
This may be the most startling news you ever heard - “A simple golf swing is the secret to a great golf game!”
Eighty percent of the 27 million golfers in this world do NOT achieve a handicap of less than 18. The vast majority of these golfers credit inconsistency as the culprit - inconsistency in their swing.
How many shots per round could you shave if you hit the ball solid, straight, and longer each time?…
7 strokes?…
10 strokes?…
Even more?
If you’re too busy with life to even think about your defective golf swing - what are you to do?
Read on…
The secret: A simple golf swing starts with using your stable spine as an axis to keep your swing on plane - you must swing around a stable spine!
Most high handicap golfers do not swing around a stable spine - they have more sway and unnecessary movements than you could shake a stick at.
Your swing will be most effective if you coil around your stable spine with limited hip rotation - the secret to tremendous power!
Since you are limiting your hip rotation you don’t have to swing the club back too far, your backswing will be shortened yet you will still be storing plenty of power in your backswing coil.
So what have we learnt so far in creating a simple golf swing?
- Swing around a stable spine.
- Your hip rotation is limited.
- Your backswing is shortened - you don’t have to swing back to parallel.
The truth is the most effective swing does not have a lot of moving parts to it. The best golfers on the planet have built themselves a simple golf swing utilizing only the movements that promote solid contact and consistency.
You want a simple golf swing you can perform correctly over and over again - even under the pressures of tournament play.
In fact, once you have programmed your subconscious with a simple golf swing that is fundamentally sound, you know longer have to think about it - your simple golf swing will become automatic! You program your subconscious by practicing the fundamental components of a sound golf swing until they are engrained.
Conventional swing thinking says a fundamentally sound golf swing should have a lot of sway in it and the golf club should go back to parallel at the top…
This is hogwash!
The more moving parts to your swing - the more room for error.
By simplifying your swing with less moving parts you minimize the chance of errors in your swing!
Once you have programmed your simple golf swing into your psyche, you now only have to think about hitting your target.
What a beautiful feeling it will be when you are not thinking about your golf swing out on the golf course - you are only thinking about what matters - things such as your target, your lie, the wind, the slope, or any other factor that affects getting your golf ball to your target….
Isn’t the object of golf to get the ball into the cup in the least amount of strokes?
So go build yourself a simple golf swing and start scoring on the golf course like you’re capable of!
Hit ‘em Long and Straight!

Monday, December 22nd, 2008How To Get A Perfect Golf Swing Every Time
Friday, December 19th, 2008Helen Hecker asked:
Golf is a difficult game to master and most golfers don’t have the time it takes to practice, practice, and practice to significantly improve. When you’re playing golf badly it isn’t a lot of fun. Even the guys who play golf for a living and get the best golf instruction in the world still struggle to improve their golf; and they practice each and every day!
Concentrate totally on your game and you’ll get the best score. The positive energy you send out will influence your game, just as negative thinking and therefore negative energy will affect it also. Golf requires tough mental fitness as well as physical fitness and is often overlooked.
Use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when you’re working on your backswing. Ask your golf pro to evaluate your posture while swinging. One of the problems that most inexperienced golfers share is they think too much about their swing.
Before you swing, make sure you’re relaxed; contract all your muscles tightly for a moment and then relax them. As the body matures, the ability to rotate the upper torso is affected by age, and the hand action can also slow down requiring a slightly stronger grip. Try not to grip the club too tightly.
Putting can become a nightmare and a condition called the ‘yips’ has affected not only amateurs but professionals as well; get expert advice and consider a golf swing aid. Putts and short chips are ideally played without much movement of the body, but most other golf shots are played using variants of the full golf swing.
At the end of a swing, the weight has shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body is fully turned to the left and the hands are above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the players’ back.
Swing slowly and steadily using a nice rhythm. At the end of a backswing the hands are above the right shoulder, with the golf club pointing more or less in the intended direction of ball flight.
Workouts with straight crunches won’t improve your swing or driving distance; concentrate on weighted rotational exercises instead. Using a weighted club, make rotational golf swings to improve your power. Once you understand that you can change your swing by using a simple technique, you’ll never underestimate golf fitness again.
Golf swing aids come in all shapes and sizes including apparel type accessories to correct alignment or a golf club add-on accessory to monitor your swing. There are golf swing aids that act as driving range simulators. Golf aids are often for sale at your pro shop or local golf shop.
Most of all don’t waste your money on a golf swing aid you don’t need or will never use. Sporting goods stores have golf aids to improve your game. Look for golf swing aids at your local golf course.
Golf magazines often review the newest golf swing aids and are reviewed by golfers, making it easy to choose the right one for you. Overall, investing in golf swing aids will greatly improve your golf swing and your golf game. If you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re not hard to find.
Before buying any golf swing aid, check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first; backlift of golf swing, momentum of downward thrust or stance for example. In any case, stick to just one golf swing aid at a time; don’t load up on them.
If you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly once, you can do it every time. There are a lot of places to get golf swing tips, golf game tips and golf instruction so when you do have time to hit the course, you’ll have a plan in mind. Having a plan and working on specific aspects of the swing or game should be your goal.

How do I correct a golf swing that is consistently slicing?
Monday, December 15th, 2008Can anyone help my posture in the golf swing?
Monday, December 8th, 2008Andrew S asked:
On the follow through, I lose my posture. When I swing the club in my right hand and use my left hand to keep my left hip pushed in - I make a great pivot. But, with two hands on the club, I lose the bend in my hip. I do have a chronic bad back for 25 years. But, I figure there must be a set up tip or some other tip to help. Your thoughts?

Mastering the Golf Swing
Friday, December 5th, 2008Lee Collins asked:
You don’t have to understand all the ins and outs of the golf swing in order to play well, but it certainly will help.
A person usually cannot pick up a golf club for the first time and swing it with perfection.
But, the body can learn the correct way to swing a golf club.
One gotcha is to be sure to NOT lift your head to view the alignment of the club face during the back swing and/or downswing.
The best focusing points for a consistent swing are:
1) efficient golf swing mechanics and 2) the body.
By keeping your joints supple and flexible, you could help ensure the length of your golf swing and even your club head speed.
Golf Swing Mechanics and Your Body
In order to learn efficient golf swing mechanics, the golf swing has to match your body’s ability.
The ability to maintain your body in the correct “balanced” position, while going through your golf swing, requires intense neuromuscular control.
Training muscles involved in the golf swing, particularly the lower body and torso muscles, helps to hit the ball a greater distance.
The key is to play with optimal golf swing mechanics to reduce stress on your spine. If you ignore either the body or the mechanics, it would be safe to say that your golf swing and game will suffer.
It is also important to mention that the motion of a golf swing, if done incorrectly, can cause injuries in many parts of the body.
Injuries to the key muscle groups used in the golf swing can be significantly lowered by improving flexibility. Remember Your Posture
Your posture sets the tone for an unobstructed, free-flowing and uncomplicated golf swing.
Every error in your posture magnifies itself throughout your golf swing, and nowhere is that more amplified than on the backswing.
Look at your posture.
Proper posture allows you to make the golf swing and protect your back. You should focus to physically try to stay in your golf posture until the end of your swing.
Finally, The Swing
Without question the golf swing is one of the most important aspects about the game of golf.
Timing is the key to a great swing.
The set-up is the first crucial part of golf swing timing. If your swing is off, the golf ball could fall too short or go too far.
Allow your eyes to go to the ball to begin your swing. Remember your posture and your stance.
Now the backswing. The backswing does not hit the golf ball, but this does not mean that executing a good backswing is not important.
All of the motion ties into one another. It can be hard to master, as the golf swing is not a natural motion for most people.
But practicing and focusing on key aspects will go a long way to improving your swing.
Remember your body is one of these key aspects.
A strong lower back is critical to making an effective turning motion in the golf swing. And don’t rush into it. Never try to hit a golf ball until your swing is second nature.
Now that We Have the Basics, How to Improve
Practice, practice and more practice. This doesn’t necessarily mean time spent every day, but it does mean to focus on all the key aspects each time you do practice.
Two aspects require tuning and development of you wish to improve the power in your golf swing; timing and form.
You can work on drills to improve your golf swing timing, always remembering to start with a solid setup. In regard to form, powerful abdominals will improve posture at the address and help to prevent lower-back pain associated with the golf swing.
Also, by working on your stance and finishing position, your golf swing is on its way to giving you a perfect game.
Maintaining Power
As time goes on you may be losing your ability to produce power in your golf swing.
An inefficient golf swing decreases the amount of power delivered to golf swing. Great players attest that focussing on proper body stance and a smooth, focused swing maximizes your power and develops an athletic golf swing with perfect balance.
Many things go into playing a great game of golf, none as important as having the proper golf swing and body form.
This will not just increase your ability in the game, but also your enjoyment.
