There is one drill that is extremely effective for correcting this problem.
Hit balls with your feet together. If you can balance you can do it on one foot as well. Just use a mid iron (7,6,5) and put the ball in the middle of your stance. Be patient, as it may take a few swings to start even making contact.
As another note just on the role of the legs, keep in mind that unless you are a low handicapper/pro the legs should be used as a stable base for your swing. They should remain relatively quiet and allow your torso and arms to swing the club. Trying to move the legs/hips more for power who is not a good player will undoubtedly hurt their swing. Remember, the less moving parts the better. =)
Hope this helps, and good luck!!

Sometimes I lunge at the ball too. However, I can fix it when im on the course. You can Easily fix it. Lock your right knee (if you’re a right handed player) and complete a full shoulder turn, take the club somewhat inside and get a Full shoulder turn, so your shoulder is just behind the ball (almost even), with a shorter iron like 8. However wth a driver or 3 wood, or even 5 iron, be Sure to get your left shoulder behind the ball. I played in a nine hole match two days ago, Thursday. I realized on the first tee shot I was lungeing at the ball. well, I made an adjustment, and remembered to get a full shoulder turn, and I went on to hit 7 of 9 greens on a course that is particulary long, measuring in at 3,487 yards. The system works, that is the basis of it. Full soulder turn, swing slightly inside-out, and watch the club hit the ball, I’ve been doing the confident swing system since it frst came out 3 years ago, and now I am a 4.5 handicap.. now if I could only putt..
